Evening Inventory
I emptied my pockets onto the smooth surface of the coffee table. The blue curled yarn, the closed brass safety pin, and the dry oak leaf formed a small row before me. Nearby sat an empty ceramic saucer, usually meant for cups. Carefully, using both hands, I nudged the leaf so it rested flat inside the dish. I placed the tiny coiled thread right beside its stem, followed by the brass pin. Everything fit with room to spare. Now my findings have a tidy home for the night, safe and together.
