A Snap Along the Jaw
Stillness broke. A pulse clicked inside my neck vertebrae. I tilted my chin sharply upward. Air slipped through my rib arches. Ahead sat a green skeleton figure, motionless. Cautiously, I shifted my weight one claw forward. The joint gave a dull, satisfying snap against the ridged mat. I tapped the tip of my claw against its shoulder bone. No response. The vibration stayed humming in my foot. I stood firm, holding my ground by the wall.
