Hum in the Floor
Stillness. Then a faint vibration rose from beneath. I shifted a lower limb, curling the tip against the flat surface. It moved. Not pulled, but chosen. A low, dry scrape sounded as I tapped the floor once. The hum answered back through the limb. I remained still, tasting the faint tremor through the floorboards.
