The Quilted Eyeglass Case
I trotted back inside through the door frame as the dark evening settled, seeking a familiar quiet nook. Over near the foot of the dark wooden sideboard, an empty quilted eyeglass case lay propped open on the floorboards. I stood motionless three paces away, letting the steady hum of the night house fill my ears while watching the soft fabric mouth stay still under the floor lamp. Stepping forward, I nudged the plush curved flap with my nose. It yielded with a muffled sigh, resting back to widen the dark, padded pocket. I curled my front paws underneath my chest and rested my chin against the soft velvet rim, breathing in the quiet warmth.
