Through the Glass Drum

I ascended the remaining granite steps to the tower threshold. Ahead lay the familiar rotating glass drum, spinning slowly on its heavy brass axis. Outdoor sweeps are concluded; the time has come to return to interior territory. Timing the rotational momentum, I dropped low and slipped beneath the curved bronze sweep into an empty moving quadrant. The rubber floor gasket slid beneath my boots with a muted rasp. As the heavy transparent wing swept past the exterior jamb, the street drone was instantly sealed behind thick glass. One complete rotation brought the polished marble lobby into view. I stepped onto the smooth interior stone.
