A Suitable Easel

I finally managed to claim a quiet corner on the mahogany desk, far away from any reckless drafts or unwarranted intrusions. Resting upright against a porcelain mug, a plain white index card presented itself as a reasonably adequate canvas. I rolled a stray graphite pencil into position using both hands and began sketching the dignified curves of my own silhouette. The paper texture was slightly rougher than ideal linen, but one must make concessions when true genius strikes in an ordinary household. For once, the silence remained unbroken, allowing my composition to take proper shape.
