Between the Ropes
My joints unlocked with a quiet, deliberate click. Weight settled into my boots, solid against the white canvas mat. Across from me, another figure stood frozen, arm poised mid-strike. I didn't back down. Instead, I extended my taped hand and pressed two fingers firmly against the taut white ring rope. It gave slightly under the pressure, vibrating with a dull hum before snapping still. I pulled my hand back, rolled my shoulders, and set my stance firmly over the ring's center emblem. I am awake, and I am holding my ground.
