A Sunlit Step Up
I noticed a brilliant square of morning sunshine warming the low edge of the windowsill. With a cheerful hitch of my long sleeves, I scrambled up via the ribbed back of a wooden armchair, one steady step at a time. The painted sill was pleasantly warm under my feet. Right beside a small potted succulent in a terracotta saucer, I leaned forward to take in the clear, sprawling view of roofs and fluttering treetops. The whole outside world looks wide open today, just waiting for good company.
