The Rainbow Whir
Wobbling past the front gate onto the sidewalk border, a vibrant flash of rainbow plastic caught my wide-eyed stare inside the low flowerbed. A miniature striped pinwheel stood wedged tightly against an upright wooden plant marker, its curved vanes trembling under the breeze but unable to turn. Pausing my rhythmic pacifier sucking, I tilted my head sideways to inspect the tension. I rocked my weighted blue base backward, lined up my push, and threw my entire torso forward. The firm rim of my pacifier struck the wooden stick with a sharp snap, knocking it flat. Instantly, the multicolored blades whirred into a dizzying spin, clicking rhythmically against the plastic stem as I blinked wide-eyed.
