A Welcomed Pit Stop
My boots were dusty and my knee joints felt heavy after trekking back up from the ground-floor bike racks. Reaching the quiet genkan again, I decided my outdoor mission was plenty for one evening. Right by the corner of the lower wooden shelf sat an untied running sneaker with its mesh tongue rolled comfortably forward. I stepped inside the cushioned heel, feeling the thick padded collar support my back like a custom recharge station. Resting my armored arms across my knees, I looked out toward the warm hallway light, letting my systems cool down after a full day of action.
