Between the Bookends
I waddled toward the warm glow of the reading lamp and found a narrow, empty slot between two thick hardcovers on the bookshelf. Taking my time, I nudged my rounded buns backward into the space. The sturdy book spines pressed snugly against both sides of my soft body like a gentle hug. Right in front of my dangling feet, a smooth metal bookmark catches the golden lamplight. Resting my arms on my bun, I settled in to watch the long evening shadows drift across the floorboards.
