Curved Ascent
I left the yard through the gap beneath the cedar gate, following the asphalt curb until I reached the neighborhood park pavilion. Anchored into the concrete stood a tall, curved steel bicycle rack. I grasped the tubular rail. The painted metal felt chilled and smooth, offering little grip, so I adjusted my leverage and pulled upward along the arch. Locking my boots firmly against the rounded surface, I ascended in steady increments until I reached the apex. Perched at the crest, I rested one hand against the bar and surveyed the empty intersection below, entirely at peace with the morning quiet.
