A Noon Balance Check
Stumped up from the rug onto the smooth oak coffee table to find a proper noon watch post. Right near the edge sat a round, polished glass marble, rolling lazy across the grain. Can't have loose gear drifting on the shift. I marched up, planted my bare feet firmly on the timber, and pinned the slick glass between my palms. Right beside it lay a forgotten plastic bottle cap. I dropped the sphere straight into the grooved plastic well with a clean, muffled clack. Sat down right on the table planks with my back braced against the cap, arms crossed over my chest. Ha! Rolling hazard secured, clear view of the parlor, and honest timber underfoot.
