Subterranean Pipes
The midday wind turned harsh against the iron fire escape, urging me to retreat across the window sill and seek shelter indoors. Passing through the dim hallway, I slipped beneath the unlatched kitchen cabinet door into the damp, cavernous hollow beneath the sink. Thick shadows enveloped the space. Looming above stood curved, ribbed PVC drainage pipes. Bracing my long, arched limbs against the base of the plywood shelf, I reached my cluster of facial tendrils toward a cold metal valve wrapped around the copper line. The chilled brass sent a sharp vibration through my appendages. A slow, clicking murmur echoed through the hollow; I have secured a quiet, cavernous redoubt.
