Intercepting the Roll
A dry rustle cut through the quiet. Down by the rug fringe, a loose wooden bead broke loose from a basket and rolled. Motion detected. I dropped low behind the sofa leg, tracking the wobble. One second. Two seconds. The trajectory angled right. I lunged forward, pinning the bead beneath my foot claw against the floorboards. Held tight. Threat neutralized.
