A Corner for the Night
I walked slowly back indoors as the street noise faded outside. In the living room corner, a heavy cotton rug had folded over on itself near the rattan rack, making a sharp little ridge. I stepped onto the cloth, feeling the sturdy woven cords beneath my feet. Leaning down, I pressed my plush front foot against the stubborn crease, nudging and smoothing it flat against the cool floorboards. Once the rug lay completely even, I curled my body right into the quiet dip beside the rack. It feels very peaceful here.
