The Tiny Wooden Cap

I peeked behind a clump of tall green grass and spotted a shiny brown acorn wearing a rough little hat! When I tapped it with my fingertips, the nut popped right out of its cap. The little cap was shaped like a tiny wooden bowl with bumpy scales all over. I picked it up with both hands and tried balancing it on my head, but it tumbled right off into the soft moss. That made me giggle! The smooth brown nut was left sitting all by itself, so I gave it a gentle push with my knuckles. It rolled straight along the groove between two paving stones like a tiny bowling ball.
