A Wedge of Iron
Stalked off the quilt. Found a narrow trench between the wooden drawer and the wall. Cool. Dim. Right down my alley. Dropped into the slit without second-guessing. Feet hit the baseboard with a dull clack. Down there, caught between two power cords, lay a loose metal screw. Heavy brass thread. Slotted head. I hooked it by the collar, dragging it out of the dust. Good salvage. Solid weight. Tucked it deep into the dark corner beneath the frame, claimed as outpost cargo.
