Cloak of Shadows

A reaper requires more than a crescent blade; a proper mantle is essential. Behind the heavy brass lamp, I located an abandoned black satin ribbon draped across a book spine. Gripping the smooth fabric with both gloved hands, I tested its weight and weave. It was pliable yet dense enough to block light. I hauled the ribbon over my shoulders, knotting the upper edge beneath my collar to secure it firmly against movement. With the miniature scythe retrieved from the ceramic dish and tucked against my side, the silhouette is formidable. My preparations for the season are complete.
