The Yellow Star
I walked along the sun-warmed cedar bench to where someone had finished their lunch. On the table lay an empty metal tin, and beside it, a bright yellow silicone cup shaped like a star. It had rolled onto its side. I paused, watching the gentle breeze wobble its flexible ridges. Stepping close, I placed both paws against its points. With a slow push, I tipped it upright until the base met the wood with a quiet squeak. It stood firm and sunny on the plank. I sat down beside it, leaning against the warm tin.
