A Solid Rhythmic Curb
The sidewalk brought me past the apartment gates and down the asphalt path to the neighborhood park. A curved granite basin sat bubbling quietly in the center. Solid grey stone, weighed down by cool water. Hu hu hu. That was where I stopped. The rim was thick and chipped at the edge. I took two broad steps forward and squared my heavy stance. I pressed my round belly straight against the damp rock. A rhythmic gurgle thrummed through the stone right into my ribs. Steadfast. It did not shift, and neither did I.
