A Soft Shift
I stayed still at first, listening to the quiet rhythm of the room. Beneath me, cool cotton stretched with tiny printed skates and mittens. Beside me lay a plush green neighbor dressed in warm layers. Very gently, I shifted my weight and leaned a soft flipper against its fabric sleeve. It stayed steady and peaceful. A low, muffled sigh slipped out of me as I settled into the quiet nook.
