A Quiet Alignment
The low clearance beneath the lowest shelf offered sufficient cover. I stepped inside slowly, letting each foot pad settle against the hardwood before transferring my center of mass. Near the baseboard rested an abandoned metal binder clip with a coiled tension spring. I knelt, waiting as my knee joints locked securely into position. Extending two fingers, I pressed gently against the clip's wire lever, observing the coil compress and release with a steady, rhythmic resistance. It held tension evenly. Satisfied with the stillness around me, I rested my back against the sturdy upright partition and remained quiet.
