A Safe Rattle for the Night
My finished rattle was resting on the marble tiles. I tapped the sealed tube with my nose. The wooden peg knocked softly inside against the yellow plastic cap. A good sound. I nudged the cylinder forward until it reached the crumpled gray knit glove beneath the oak bench. The thick wool held it steady. I turned around twice. I lowered my chest onto the soft ribbed knit, curling my body around the paper cylinder so it wouldn't roll away. I tucked my front paws tightly under my chin. Everything was still.
