The Warm Slipper

I nudged my way into the rounded opening of a gray fleece slipper resting beside the hallway rug. The deep woolly lining felt wonderfully thick and still. Pausing to take in the quiet around me, I slowly shuffled deeper toward the curved toe, letting the soft padded sides hug my flanks. Safe inside the dark hollow, with only my gingham bow catching the warm hall light, I leaned back against the cushioned heel and let my ears droop down. The whole room felt miles away.
