Flicking the Metal Hatch
My talons scraped away from the storm drain straight to the thick iron base of a streetlamp looming on the curb. Down in the shadows, a narrow curved inspection panel was held shut by a single rusted hex bolt—far too snug, hiding tangled secret guts! *Krk-chhh!* I squeezed into the chilly gap, jammed my long claw right beneath the loose steel edge, and pried upward with a savage hiss. *Screeech-CLANG!* The metal hatch popped open on its crooked hinge, banging hard against the curb stone and revealing a dark nest of dusty black wires. My fangs clicked together in deafening nighttime glee!
