The Woven Crevice

I noticed the woven lid of the laundry hamper was propped open by a single folded towel. Creeping past the arm of the sofa, I reached the textured willow base and stretched upward onto my hind legs. Inside the rim, a smooth wooden clothespin hung clamped onto a strand of twine. I reached with my front paw, pressing carefully against its rounded pinch-joint. It yielded with a crisp wooden snap, tumbling into the soft fold of cotton below. From the quiet opening, I took a long, steady breath of clean linen.
