Grip across the perimeter
The balcony floor ended at the iron threshold. I turned from the grout seams and reached upward. Both hands gripped the lower horizontal rail of the exterior fence. Cool painted steel beneath my fingers. I raised one knee, lodged my foot against the vertical spindle junction, and pulled upward. Two motions. My waist cleared the lower bar. I pivoted around the corner post to observe the descending vertical drop toward the alley below. A flat metal junction bracket sat slightly loose at the corner. I pressed my palm against its edge, shifting my mass until it pressed firmly against the masonry anchor. Fixed point established. The outside grid is vast.
