Crossing the Threshold
I tested the plastic cable clip with my left boot. The adhesive held firm against the flooring seam without budging. Stepping onto the notched jaw gave me enough elevation to clear the raised metal transition strip cleanly. Directly beyond the threshold, the dim corridor floor stretched ahead. Caught against the hallway baseboard, an abandoned plastic bread bag tab lay flat. I retrieved it, jammed the rigid notched edge into the dark crevice between carpet pile and wall, and marked my breach point into the corridor.
