The pedal test proved the drivetrain, but the front console required inspection. I climbed the bicycle's angled down-tube, using the gear cable casing as a steady track until I reached the crossbar. Mounted beside the rubber grip was a cylindrical aluminum headlight with a rubber toggle switch. I braced against the stem clamp and pressed the toggle with the heel of my boot. An intense beam of white light punched through the dim entryway, casting hard-edged shadows across the closed door. A focused emitter. Adequate for dark perimeter runs.
