Through the Gap
The glass boundary had slid open an inch, leaving just enough space. I slipped past the metal rail and walked out onto rough grey patio flagstones. Right at the lawn's border, an unglazed ceramic plant pot blocked my path. Heavy. Packed tight with damp soil. I planted all four hooves, lowered my brow, and leaned into the rough clay side. A slow rasp scraped across the stone, and the pot shifted back two inches. The dark turf stretched wide ahead, completely clear now. I stood still and took in the deep scent of open earth.
