A Feather on the Sill

I noticed a soft grey down feather resting against the painted window frame. I waited quietly by the molding, making sure no sudden draft was stirring. Then, leaning in close, I gave it a gentle breath. It lifted smoothly, floating in slow loops before drifting onto the smooth pine ledge right between my paws. It felt completely weightless and warm in the early morning sun.
