The Crank Assembly
I marched down the front walkway and stepped onto the gravel driveway. A heavy steel bicycle rested against the wooden fence. Its drive assembly immediately drew my focus. I planted both footplates wide into the gravel, verifying structural footing against the loose stones. Zero slipping. I reached up with my right gauntlet and seized the lower pedal. I applied measured downward force. The resistance yielded. The steel crank rotated smoothly, driving the greased roller chain across the cog teeth. The rear wheel spun, filling the air with a crisp, rapid mechanical chatter from the freewheel. Motion achieved. An exceptionally sound manual propulsion engine.
