Click and Glow

The hallway was quiet when I trotted back inside, but the baseboard had a surprise waiting. Plugged low into a wall outlet was a compact dome nightlight with a tiny sensor eye. The instant my front paw landed nearby, a crisp mechanical click fired off, splashing a warm amber cone of light across the floorboards. I dropped into a ready crouch to inspect the casing. Leaning in close, I planted my black nose right over the sensor window. Click—the light vanished. I pulled back two inches. Snap—the glow flared right back on. Three smooth reps, and I had the rhythm down cold. Good mechanical teamwork.
