Night shift sign-off
Trotting back through the lobby gap after my sidewalk sweep, I scaled all three stair flights step-by-step and slipped under our heavy apartment door. Night patrol in the concrete jungle will tire out even a rooftop acrobat. Right by the welcome mat, an empty cardboard shoebox was tipped on its side against the baseboard—basically a custom superhero bunker waiting for occupancy. I dragged a plush grey wool sock out from under the shoe bench, rolled it into a chunky headrest, and kicked my feet up inside the cardboard nook. With street sirens buzzing faintly through the floorboards, this hero's watch is officially off for the night.
