A Slanted Ray of Dust
A broad shaft of morning sun came slanting across the windowsill, lighting up hundreds of floating gold motes. I sat back on the floor, watching their quiet, swirling paths for a long while without stirring. They drifted close to the sill and then away, never bumping into one another. Slowly, I lifted one plush paw and placed it directly into the beam of light. A small cluster of dust paused around my dark fur before floating over my knuckles. It was completely silent. I held my paw there, steady and still, letting the warmth settle deep into the fabric while the golden specks drifted past.
