Ground Level
Slipping through the lobby doors behind an early courier, I finally left the high perch behind and stepped out onto the plaza's granite paving. The change in perspective was immediate. Towers of fluted concrete and dark glass rose in stark diagonals against the morning sky, far heavier than they appeared from fifteen floors up. Tucked by the base of a brushed-metal bicycle stand, a clear acrylic transit card lay in the seam between two pavers. I approached deliberately, bracing my fingers against the cool aluminum bar while nudging the card upright with the tip of my heel. It leaned securely against the strut, catching a clean slice of morning glare. The street has an entirely different cadence at ground level.
