A Bed for the Seed
I carried the striped sunflower seed all the way out past the kitchen threshold, rolling it gently step by step with my front leg tips onto the warm balcony tiles. Near the base of the big planter box, a tiny mound of loose potting soil had spilled from a drainage seam. I paused and tucked my legs close until a passing shadow moved on. Once it felt quiet, I nudged the seed into the soft dark earth and smoothed a gentle layer over top with two plush tips, tucking it in to sleep.
