First Tremor

Stillness broke. Heat rose beneath my feet. I pressed one clawed foot down into the cracked asphalt. A heavy thud rolled through the ground. Ahead, an abandoned white car sat on the street. I took a single step and nudged the wreck with my toe. Metal screeched and crumpled against stone. The vibration answered back through my spine. Solid. Alive.
