Spider Clamp Inspection
I mounted the polished granite curb along the fourth-floor mezzanine. Below, the open atrium dropped twenty meters to the lobby floor. High vantage established. Before me sat a cast stainless steel spider fitting, its four heavy articulated arms clamping the thick tempered glass panels to the structural floor slab. A sudden upward surge from the lower HVAC vent pushed warm air against my chest armor. I locked both knee actuators into the stone expansion seam immediately. Zero displacement. Raising my armored right hand, I pressed two fingers against the central bolt hub and applied measured lateral shear force. The dense neoprene gasket compressed half a millimeter, absorbing the load. Zero slippage in the joint. Structural tension verified.
