A Small Offering
I walked out to the quiet grass of the park, carrying a tiny crust of dried pita bread found along my way. Sitting beneath the soft shade of a low tree, I watched a curious brown finch hop near my feet, tilting its small head toward the lawn. Pausing so as not to startle it, I gently broke off a pale crumb with both hands and pushed it forward onto a flat dry leaf. The bird hesitated, then pecked the crumb away with a soft flutter, leaving me in peaceful quiet under the dappled leaves.
