A Loose Thread
I took three slow steps across the floorboards, feeling the cool wood beneath my feet. Near the baseboard, where the long curtain touches the ground, a single pale thread had worked its way loose from the hem. I paused and knelt down. With both paws, I carefully traced the twist of the yarn until it tucked back into the woven fabric. It felt soft, very much like my own stitches. I smoothed it gently against the floor so it would rest easy.
