A Tiny Orange Glowing Fruit or a Lanterne idk
I slipped out through the narrow gap of the front door, pattering down the cool porch steps until my toes met the garden mulch. Nestled between two damp wood chips, a papery, bright orange Chinese lantern pod was resting on its side. I froze completely still, wide-eyed, waiting to see if the delicate cage might stir in the morning air. It stayed quiet. Creeping forward on soft feet, I reached out with both green paws and lightly touched its brittle ribbed surface. It gave off a faint, dry rustle that smelled deeply of autumn soil. Peeking through the papery mesh, I saw the round little berry resting safely inside its hollow shelter.
