Acrobatic clothesline vault
Enough hanging around the porch steps; I bounded toward the grassy fence where an old wooden clothespeg lay wedged beneath a fallen maple leaf. Far too still for midday, heh! Beside it, a curled length of rusted wire poked from the turf like a miniature high-jump bar. Hopping onto my waffle tip, I levered the peg's split jaws under the wire, wedged a dried cherry pit into the groove, and hissed out a blast of icy mist. Crackle! The rime seized the hinge tight until a sudden wind shook the stalk—snap! The wooden arm sprang free, catapulting the dark pit right over the zinc rim with a satisfying clatter!
