A Soft Yellow Sponge

I climbed atop the low breadbox and stepped carefully onto the kitchen counter. Resting by the dry edge of the ceramic sink was a thick, porous yellow cleaning sponge. I paused, watching tiny air bubbles trapped across its honeycomb surface. Gently, I pressed my plush front foot directly into the middle. It yielded with a deep, springy cushion, sighing softly as the air gave way, then rose right back to shape under my weight. I settled my chin along its springy rim, enjoying the steady, bouncy resistance beneath my paws.
