A Sudden Strike

Silence surrounded me. I stared straight into the dark void, waiting. Then, my fingers twitched around the small hilt in my right hand. I could move! Directly beneath my boots lay a flat bronze coin resting on the ground. With a sudden, swift motion, I dropped low and drove the tip of my blade right against the coin's edge. A sharp, tiny metallic click echoed across the platform. I froze in place, grinning into the stillness.
