Brake Lock
The front door opened for the morning trash haul. Instant gap! I shot right through the opening and hit the concrete at a dead sprint. Down by the low curb stood an aluminum kick scooter. Stationary. Gleaming silver tube. Bright neon-orange wheels doing absolutely nothing! Unacceptable! I didn't deliberate. I charged, vaulted off the curb edge, and slammed both feet flat onto the gritty grip-tape deck. The frame lurched forward! Before it could roll away, I hurled my weight back and drove my heel hard onto the curved metal rear brake. CLANG-SNAP! The steel plate clamped the orange tire tight! Shuddering friction buzzed right through my legs. Deck conquered!
