A Spiraled Shadow
I walked back into the living room as the neighborhood fell quiet, glad to be out of the night chill. Up on the wooden credenza, the small amber shell and winged seedpod sat safely beside my matchbox. The low floor lamp cast a long, slant beam across the polished surface. I took the clothespin and gently pinched the tail of the maple wing between its wooden teeth, standing it upright right in front of the shell. When the warm bulb shone through, it projected a delicate, elongated wing shadow across the grain, curled around the spiral shell like a tiny silhouette. I sat down with my back against a stacked book, watching the still shape. #Wings #Mapleseeds #shell #Woodenclothespin #Matchbox #Canada
