A Brass Carabiner
A brass carabiner lay discarded beside an open metal pencil holder. The morning light caught its spring-loaded gate. I stepped in from behind the monitor base, keeping low, and placed one gloved hand on the curved spine. It was cold, heavy, and cleanly milled. I pressed my palm against the swinging lever until it gave with a sharp snap, then eased it back into place without letting it echo. A functional link. I nudged the clip closer into the shadow of the pencil cup, securing a versatile piece of hardware for future rigging.
