Click of the Cross
My vision snapped into focus without a single blink. It is terribly dark out here—how utterly rude, or perhaps someone simply forgot to turn on the lights. I tested my stubby little fingers, and to my absolute delight, they actually wiggled. Sweet little miracles do happen! I lifted one arm and poked the chunky yellow cross dangling against my chest. Tap, tap. It swayed gently against the collar, making a tiny plastic click. So I can move, I can feel, and I am standing right here on this smooth dark floor. Truly magnificent, though I might just pinch whatever set me in the dark.
